What Is Left of the Northeast Side Project
Clear Path 465 is more than 90% complete. The project expects construction to wrap up in late 2026.
Two milestones remain inside the I-69/I-465 interchange. The new ramp from eastbound I-465 to northbound I-69 is the first. The new ramp from northbound Binford Boulevard to westbound I-465 is the second. The project lists both as on track for completion by late this year.

The finished pieces are in service. All six new bridges at 82nd Street are complete. All eight new bridges in the I-69/I-465 interchange are complete. Southbound I-69 moved into its final configuration on or after Monday, September 21, 2026. That shift restored access to westbound I-465 and southbound Binford Boulevard from the 82nd Street ramp.
Four Years of Work in Two Contracts
The first contract rebuilt and added lanes to 4.5 miles of I-465 between Fall Creek and the White River. INDOT awarded it to a tri-venture of E&B Paving, Rieth-Riley Construction and Gradex in December 2021. Construction began in March 2022.
The second contract covers nearly two miles of I-69 and Binford Boulevard, including the 82nd Street and I-465 interchanges. INDOT awarded it in early 2023, and construction started in early 2023.
The project adds 14 new bridges, rehabilitates two and widens two, and the project's FAQ estimates the total cost at $500 million with a $70 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America grant awarded in 2021.
Speed Limits and Lane Counts to Cite
The speed limit on eastbound I-465 between Keystone Avenue and 56th Street/Shadeland Avenue rose from 45 to 55 mph beginning on or after Monday, August 17, 2026, after crews opened additional travel lanes.

The corridor carries four mainline through lanes in each direction from the White River to 56th Street, with auxiliary lanes between interchanges for entering and exiting traffic.

The Hampton Inn Indianapolis NE/Castleton at 6817 East 82nd Street sits about 0.2 miles away, and the Drury Inn & Suites Indianapolis Northeast at 8180 North Shadeland Avenue about 0.3 miles away. The Courtyard Indianapolis Castleton at 8670 Allisonville Road is about 1.5 miles away. West along 86th Street, Marriott Indianapolis North at 3645 River Crossing Parkway is about 2.9 miles away and the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel at Keystone Crossing at 8787 Commerce Crossing about 3.1 miles. Arrival Windows a Desk Can Promise
Closure work runs overnight, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The project published the week of September 23 to 24, 2026 with a single lane closure on I-465 southbound between 75th Street and Fall Creek and on I-465 northbound between Fall Creek and 75th Street. The ramp from 96th Street to southbound I-69 drops to one lane on September 23. On September 24, 82nd Street narrows to one lane in each direction under I-69, and the eastbound I-465 ramp to southbound Binford Boulevard closes.
The ramp from southbound I-69 to southbound Binford Boulevard stays at one lane from mid-September through mid-October for barrier wall installation.
A guest arriving after 9 p.m. on a night with a signed detour is on the detour. The project has used one route for the interchange ramps: eastbound I-465 to southbound I-465 and a turnaround at Pendleton Pike, U.S. 36.
Every closure notice carries the same clause: “Actual dates and anticipated work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances occur.” Quote it beside the window.
What the Project Has Not Published
Six items stay open. No calendar date for the two remaining interchange ramps beyond late this year. No statement on the posted speed limit that follows completion. No closure calendar past the rolling weekly updates. No lane-rental or event-night guidance for properties inside the work zone. No schedule for the intermittent 71st Street Trail closures the FAQ describes. No date inside fall 2026 for the reconstructed Nickel Plate Trail section.
