A Headquarters Opens on the West Bank
Elanco Animal Health opened its global headquarters on October 1, 2025 on the near west side of downtown Indianapolis. Inside INdiana Business put the cost above $200 million.
The campus holds three buildings. A six-story administration block sits beside a two-story laboratory building and a two-story collaboration building the company calls its crossroads building. The ground is the former General Motors Stamping Plant, which opened in the 1930s and closed in 2011. The plant ran 2.1 million square feet of factory floor and employed as many as 5,600 people, and most of it came down in 2013.
Elanco spun off from Eli Lilly and Co. in 2018 and moved this headquarters from Greenfield along Interstate 70.
More Than 700 People Report Here on a Weekday
Elanco's newsroom counts more than 725 employees based in the greater Indianapolis area. Inside INdiana Business reported more than 700 working out of the new headquarters, against a global workforce of about 9,450. That count sets the weekday floor under the campus.
A campus of that size runs candidate interviews, vendor reviews, auditor visits, onboarding cohorts, team offsites and customer meetings through the calendar year. Elanco describes leading innovation laboratories, workstations indoors and out, a wellness center and gym, courts for pickleball, bocce and basketball, a cafe and coffee shop, and an enclosed dog park.
The District Next Door Adds Traffic
The campus anchors the OneHealth Innovation District. Purdue University and Elanco signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indiana Economic Development Corp. on May 23, 2024 at the state's Global Economic Summit.
The two parties committed to a shared-use facility on three acres with office, wet lab and incubator space. Elanco also committed to buy 12 acres north of its footprint for future expansion and an Epicenter for Animal Health. Purdue publishes no construction start for the shared-use facility.
The state sold Elanco the surrounding land. Governor Mike Braun announced the $27 million sale on August 25, 2025, and IBJ recorded the purchase of 56 acres from the IEDC on August 27.
Where Visiting Travel Lands
Downtown inventory sits east of the river, inside about a mile and a half of the campus on straight-line measures from each address. JW Marriott Indianapolis at 10 S West St, the Indiana Convention Center at 100 S Capitol Ave and The Westin Indianapolis at 241 W Washington St fall inside that band, with Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown Union Station, Hyatt Regency Indianapolis, Omni Severin Hotel and Le Meridien Indianapolis behind them.
Corporate business from the campus books Monday through Thursday. A vendor visit runs one night. A training cohort runs two or three. An interview trip runs one. The campus holds no guest rooms, so those nights land in downtown inventory.
Position Rate and Weekday Availability
HVS wrote in its September 8, 2025 Indianapolis market report that the 2025 headquarters moves by OTAVA and Ice Miller added weekday business travel downtown. Elanco adds an account of that kind on the west side.
Two published series set the rate backdrop. IBJ counted 8,784 downtown rooms in February 2025 and a pipeline of another 2,300 rooms. Marcus & Millichap's first-quarter 2026 report forecasts central business district occupancy near 65 percent, the highest in the metro, through a modest year-over-year dip.
Supply arrives into the same midweek base, so the share a hotel holds depends on contracted accounts. A negotiated corporate rate with last-room availability turns a headquarters relationship into a repeatable midweek floor.
The Indiana Convention Center facility guide counts 4,721 downtown rooms connected by skywalk and 4,570 committable group rooms. Convention demand can absorb weekday availability in a block, so a property that holds inventory for its corporate accounts protects the account through convention weeks.
What the Campus Has Not Published
Elanco has published no visitor count, no vendor or contractor travel figure, no training calendar and no room-night estimate for the campus. Those questions go to Elanco and to the Indiana Economic Development Corp.
The Rest of the Ground
The city is building the Henry Street Bridge and extending the Indianapolis Cultural Trail across the White River. Elanco's newsroom names both as community amenities around the campus.
State planners presented a White River State Park expansion in 2024 that would have reused a crane bay structure from the stamping plant as an event pavilion. IBJ reported in September 2025 that the state demolished the structure, and WFYI and Mirror Indy reported in March 2026 that the state abandoned the $65 million expansion.
A Weekday Account on the West Side
A headquarters campus is a weekday account. Elanco moved more than 700 employees downtown and built laboratory and collaboration space on the same ground.
Hotels inside a mile and a half should open a corporate account with the campus, agree a rate with last-room availability, and hold midweek inventory against that account. The account renews at the rate a hotel signs.
