Your Mileage May Vary published a first-person review of Hotel du Vieux-Quebec on 9 October 2026. Joe H. wrote it from a three-night stay in August 2026. The property has 45 rooms at 1190 rue Saint-Jean in Old Quebec. The account carries three things an operator can price against.
The channel that beat the direct rate
The reviewer priced Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac first and walked away from the rate. He booked Hotel du Vieux-Quebec through the Bilt Travel Portal.
The Bilt rate came to $1,426.05 for three nights including taxes and fees. He reports that figure as a little more than the hotel's direct price.
He applied a $200 hotel credit from his Bilt Palladium Card and redeemed $100 in Bilt Cash at booking. The amount charged to his card came to $1,126.05.
Bilt publishes the card terms on its own page. The Palladium card carries a $495 annual fee and a $400 Bilt Travel Hotel credit, split into two $200 credits, one for January to June and one for July to December. Each credit applies to Bilt Travel Portal hotel bookings of at least two nights, and the credits do not roll over.
That arithmetic is the operator fact. The hotel priced below the portal rate and lost the booking to $300 in credits the guest had already bought through an annual fee.
The perk that travelled without the direct booking
The hotel's own page ties its lounge terms to the direct channel. It offers guests complimentary lattes, cappuccinos and espresso coffees around the clock in its renovated lounge, and it calls the free espresso treats one of the ways it thanks guests for booking directly.
The reviewer booked on the Bilt Travel Portal. He reports the lounge with free coffee including espresso drinks, filtered water and snacks.
The room product
The reviewer booked a Superior Room with one queen bed toward the back of the hotel. He reports exposed stone on one wall against contemporary furniture, two chairs by the window, a bench along the stone wall, a dresser with a television above it and a desk.
The hotel's services page lists what a room carries: a television with cable, a mini fridge, a safe, an iron and ironing board, a hairdryer, a coffee maker and a kettle, with free Wi-Fi. It states that every room holds two bottles of filtered water, replaced daily, and that guests can borrow stainless steel bottles.
The reviewer reports the same list. He adds a wall-mounted air-conditioning unit and robes in the closet from his own stay.
The exercise room is small. The hotel's page states 24-hour access with a stationary bike, an elliptical, a bench, weights and a television. The reviewer describes the same equipment.
The breakfast the guest paid around
The hotel sells a continental breakfast basket for an extra charge. Its services page states that the basket is hung on the guest's door by 8:00 a.m. with croissants, pastries, cheese and orange juice, with a gluten-free version on request and a smaller basket free for children.
The reviewer declined it on price and ate in the neighbourhood.
The same page sets the arrival terms: check-in from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., checkout by 11 a.m., a front desk staffed around the clock and paid offsite parking with no valet.
A ranking claim printed two ways
The hotel leads with its Tripadvisor standing on its own pages and states the span two ways. The home page reads the number one hotel in Quebec City for 12 years. The hotel page reads the number one hotel in all of Quebec City for over 10 years.
The same home page describes the property as Tripadvisor's top-rated hotel in the city for the past twelve years, out of over 100 hotels, at five stars with over 2,400 reviews.
The star count moves across the site. The French hotel page calls the property a three-star hotel. The English rooms page carries four star in its page title.
The front desk carries the review
The reviewer's strongest passage covers staff continuity. He reports the same employees on the desk across three days, recognition each time he returned and patience with his limited French. Arrivals run to 11 p.m., so the desk owns every check-in the stay produced.
What an operator can use
Three mechanics carry a commercial read. A card credit can move a booking to a portal channel at a price the guest never sees at the point of sale. A perk the hotel publishes as a direct-booking thank-you reached a portal guest with no published rule attached. A ranking claim the hotel leads with is printed two ways on its own pages.
The hotel's own pages confirm the lounge terms, the in-room list, the paid breakfast basket, the 24-hour exercise room and the address. Bilt's page confirms the credit terms. Everything else is the reviewer's account of one stay.
