Choice Privileges adds free points sharing
Choice Hotels International has launched points sharing inside Choice Privileges, the company said in a release dated 1 October 2026. Members can transfer points to friends and family at no charge.
The release calls the change part of a wider set of program updates this year. It names new ways for members to earn and redeem rewards, faster paths to Elite status and more personalised benefits.
What the transfer does
The release lists three uses for the feature. A member can transfer points to a friend or family member to help fund a reward stay. A member can combine smaller balances into one reward. A member can use the balance without waiting to earn the points alone.
Choice Privileges points redeem for reward nights, gift cards and travel experiences. The release carries no minimum number of points per transfer, no annual cap, no account-eligibility rule and no processing time.
The loyalty officer's framing
Geeta Chandan, Vice President, Loyalty, Choice Hotels International, said: "Today's travelers are increasingly looking for more meaningful ways to experience the world together."
Chandan added: "By introducing points sharing as part of Choice Privileges, we're making it even easier for our members to make memories together, whether they're planning a family vacation, celebrating a milestone or simply helping a loved one get closer to their next getaway."
Where it sits in the 2026 program
The release places points sharing beside the program's other 2026 changes. It names milestone rewards, faster paths to Elite status and a new top tier in Titanium status.
What a hotel team checks
The release sets no minimum points per transfer, no annual transfer cap, no account-eligibility rule and no processing time. A reward night funded from two accounts settles as a standard redemption, and the release publishes no new step for the property.
Choice Privileges continues to be recognised as an award-winning program by outlets such as WalletHub. Choice states its portfolio runs over 7,500 properties worldwide across brands including Cambria, Comfort, Quality Inn and Everhome Suites.
