Two Training Floors in a Six-Story Build
The Village, a six-story building at 80 Julian Avenue between 14th and 15th streets, puts culinary and tech training on its first two floors. Mission Local reported on 20 May 2026 that the director, Peter Bratt, expected a September 2026 groundbreaking.
The building runs to about 41,500 square feet. The programme splits into 19,390 square feet of housing, 6,000 square feet of medical space, 17,000 square feet of institutional space and about 3,000 square feet of ground-floor restaurant. Twenty bicycle parking spaces come with the plan.
What Reaches a Commercial Kitchen
Floors one and two carry the culinary and tech training, small-business mentorship and an incubator for Native businesses. The training is the labour pipeline. The mentorship and the incubator carry a graduate into a counter or a kitchen of their own.
The record names no operator for those two floors. It publishes no curriculum, no enrolled-seat count and no employer partner.
The Stack Above the Training Floors
Floor three holds a behavioural-health clinic run with the Native American Health Center, which sits at 160 Capp Street. Floors four and five hold transitional housing for women who complete Friendship House recovery programmes. Floor six holds a women's addiction-recovery lodge. The permanently supportive homes sit on the building's top three floors.
A rooftop garden, a children's play area, a courtyard redwood grove and a sweat lodge sit with them. The site covers 0.15 acres and stands just over a block from the BART station.
The Filing That Raised the Home Count
The application submitted on 26 March 2026 raised the group-housing units from 21 to 36 at the request of the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development. The same filing cut the medical facilities to a single floor, reduced the basement and added the ground-floor restaurant space.
Friendship House Association of American Indians owns the project and works with Equity Community Builders. PYATOK, an Oakland practice, is the architect. The applicant puts construction cost at about $53 million, a figure that excludes part of the development cost.
The Timeline the Labour Arrives On
The construction period runs 18 to 20 months. A September 2026 start therefore lands the build in the spring of 2028, and a trained cohort arrives after fit-out and licensing.
Friendship House has raised about $74 million and Bratt said the organisation expects to close the remaining $10 million from city, state and private sources. The 80-bed substance-recovery and prevention programme at 56 Julian Avenue, a few feet away, belongs to the same developer.
The Pay Questions a Hiring Desk Asks
The planning record and the Mission Local report carry no hourly training cost, no wage scale and no retention rate. Those numbers decide whether a kitchen pipeline holds across a year or across one intake. A hotel or restaurant reading this project has the programme stack and the construction window.
