Hyatt's newsroom published two notices on 9 September 2026. The first ends the enhanced loyalty relationship with American Airlines. The second opens a long-term loyalty collaboration with Delta Air Lines. One deadline decides how much of each programme a member keeps earning.
The deadline that holds the earnings
An AAdvantage member and a World of Hyatt member keep the partner awards by linking the two accounts. Hyatt sets that deadline at 11:59:59 p.m. Central on 15 November. The American notice describes the ending as a mutual decision, and its wording reads that the two companies "mutually decided to not continue our enhanced relationship".
The continued earning runs only for linked accounts. A linked AAdvantage member continues earning World of Hyatt awards through Loyalty Point Rewards through 28 February 2027. A linked World of Hyatt member continues earning AAdvantage awards through Milestone Rewards through 31 December 2026. Hyatt states that earning, selecting and redeeming continue without interruption for the remainder of each programme's current earning year, and that the standard time to select an award after earning it is preserved.
The election that runs past the relationship
One election outlives the partnership. An AAdvantage member can take 500 AAdvantage miles in place of World of Hyatt points on an eligible Hyatt stay, and the member gives the AAdvantage number at check-in. Hyatt's notice states that the option continues after the broader relationship concludes. The property performs one step at arrival, and it takes the number.
The Delta collaboration
Hyatt and Delta announced the new collaboration on the same day, 9 September 2026, from Chicago. Both companies describe it as long-term and exclusive, and both say it launches in the coming months. Under a benefit Delta names Dual Earn, an eligible World of Hyatt elite member earns World of Hyatt points on qualifying Delta airfare purchases inside qualifying fare classes. A Delta SkyMiles Medallion member earns miles for qualifying stays at participating Hyatt properties.
Both companies state that enrollment mechanics, the eligibility line for elite tiers, the earning opportunities and the launch timing sit in the months ahead.
The scale behind the two deals
Hyatt's release puts World of Hyatt at 69 million members. Delta's release describes Hyatt as 36 brands across five portfolios in 83 countries, and describes Delta as serving more than 200 million customers a year across more than 300 destinations on six continents.
Mark Hoplamazian, Hyatt's chairman, president and chief executive, said: "We share a vision for delivering thoughtful, premium experiences that put our members first and create tremendous value wherever their travels take them." Ed Bastian, Delta's chief executive, said: "Hyatt shares that same premium approach to everything from travel and dining to entertainment and accommodations, and it's what makes them such a natural fit."
What a member holds in October 2026
For the rest of the calendar year, a linked member keeps earning across both programmes. The AAdvantage award through Milestone Rewards stops on 31 December 2026, and the World of Hyatt award through Loyalty Point Rewards stops on 28 February 2027. The 500-mile election on eligible Hyatt stays runs past both dates. The Delta collaboration carries no date and no rate, so the member's practical step today is the account link.
