The window and the ceiling
IHG One Rewards is selling points with a 100 percent bonus from 15 September to 5 October 2026. A single transaction of 5,000 points or more triggers the bonus. Milesopedia published the offer on 16 September 2026 and updated it on 21 September 2026.
The standing ceiling is 200,000 points in a calendar year, with bonus points excluded. IHG raises the ceiling to 300,000 points bought inside this window, which pays out 600,000 points after the bonus for US$3,000.00.
Points bought since 1 January 2026 come off that figure. A member who has bought 50,000 points this year can buy 250,000 more by 5 October. The account screen carries the percentage that applies to the member.
The one purchase route that advances status
IHG sells points a second way. A member can add up to 5,000 points per night to a booking while choosing a rate on the IHG website or in the IHG One Rewards app.
Those add-on points count toward the next Elite level. Milesopedia states this is the only IHG points purchase that advances status.
The add-on points cannot be combined with rates that carry free cancellation at seven days. Points bought in the sale do not count toward Elite status, and bonus points do not count either.
The expiry clock a purchase resets
Points expire after twelve months without an earning or redemption transaction. A purchase counts as account activity and pushes the expiry back by twelve months. Points held on an Elite membership do not expire while the status is maintained.
The price ladder the purchase turns on
The price per 1,000 points falls with the size of the purchase. The grid reads US$13.50 per 1,000 points up to 10,000 points, US$11.50 from 11,000 to 25,000, and US$10.00 from 26,000 onward. No bonus applies below 5,000 points.
The rate change at 26,000 points carries a plain result. A purchase of 25,000 points costs US$287.50. A purchase of 26,000 points costs US$260.00. The member receives 2,000 more points and pays US$27.50 less.
Where the price meets the valuation
Milesopedia values one IHG point at 0.7 Canadian cents. The cost sits about a third above that value at 5,000 points bought, near it from 11,000 to 25,000, and level with it from 26,000 onward.
The purchase settles in United States dollars. Canadian residents add the applicable sales taxes. Milesopedia recommends a card with no foreign-transaction fee because the fee runs about 2.5 percent of the transaction.
What the desk sees
A purchased balance lands in a member account and returns as an award night at a property. Points redeem at participating Iberostar Beachfront Resorts, which sit inside IHG One Rewards.
The sale closes on 5 October 2026, and the calendar-year ceiling limits a repeat purchase inside the same year.
